Over 125+ members of the Newark Residents Against the Power Plant met on February 25, 2014 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall (sponsored by the UUFN Social Justice Committee) to hear about updates on the project and to organize around the issue.
There were updates from the various working groups. The Fundraising group shared info about the 2 upcoming benefit concerts (and we were treated to a song from volunteer Karen Barker) and the volunteer outreach group is asking for neighborhood captains for those neighborhoods that need one.
Our next Community Meeting is scheduled for March 25, 2014 from 6-8 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark – 420 Willa Rd. Newark, DE ((sponsored by the UUFN Social Justice Committee) and is open to all those who are opposed to the power plant project.
This weekend, we distributed almost 6,000 door hangers to homes in and around Newark educating our neighbors about the University of Delaware power plant. We hand about 50 volunteers help deliver the door hangers, which shared some of our concerns and facts about the proposed power plant project.
Even the youngest Newarkers got involved in the effort to protect their health and educate their neighbors about the dangerous pollutants (like NoX, a leading contributor to asthma and other breathing conditions) that will be effecting our Newark children for 75+ years (the projected life span of this power plant).
There is a Newark Residents Against the Power Plant Community Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 6-8pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark. This meeting is for anyone and everyone who is interested in working to keep the University of Delaware and The Data Centers, LLC from constructing a power plant on the STAR campus in the City of Newark. Join us!
We will start off with a brief update on the project and then get to work on organizing against the project.
Please note, this meeting is only open to those who oppose the power plant. This is an organizational meeting for those who want to help stop this project. If you are a supporter of the power plant, this meeting is not for you.
